Waiting for Interspeech 2026, waiting for our baby koala! Changgyeonggung Palace was originally built by the 4th ruler of the Joseon dynasty, King Sejong (r.1418-1450). It often served as residential quarters for queens and concubines.

This is a little mountain located right in front of my laboratory. Whenever I feel exhausted or overwhelmed by my research, I come here. As I stand on this hill with its wide-open view, the complicated thoughts crowding my head quietly settle — and new inspiration begins to emerge. This humble mountain is more than just a place to rest. It is my own small sanctuary that gives me the strength to rise again, and helps me find the answers I couldn't find before. Even today, I’m here looking for inspiration—dressed in a koala outfit and holding a bunch of eucalyptus. After all, a tired researcher and a koala alike find their greatest comfort in nature's embrace. * This photo was taken without the use of any generative AI.

Taken in our speech-AI office in Seoul, Republic of Korea. What started as one koala wallpaper has escalated into a full koala operations center: dual monitors, laptop support, a thumbs-up from the human operator, and several plush supervisors keeping research morale dangerously high for Interspeech 2026.

This photo was captured beside a beautifully adorned Kazakh yurt during the radiant celebration of Nauryz, my favorite time of year and the cherished Central Asian New Year. Nauryz marks the arrival of spring, when the long winter finally surrenders, the earth awakens, blossoms unfurl, and every living thing seems to breathe again. It is a season of renewal, hope, and quiet magic. Draped in a luminous yellow chapan, the traditional Kazakh robe embroidered with delicate florals, and crowned with a rose-pink takiya, I stand at the heart of centuries-old nomadic heritage, cradling my little koala companion as a quiet bridge between two worlds. Behind me, the legendary Ile-Alatau mountains rise like guardians of Almaty (which means “father of apples”), their snow-dusted peaks glowing softly in the golden hour light. Fountains dance to my right, blossoms drift from the yurt’s lattice frame, and the crisp mountain air carries the spirit of Nauryz, a moment where tradition and nature meet beneath the Kazakh sky.

The photograph was taken in Lancaster University's Phonetics Laboratory. The koala instantly hugged the ultrasound probe and saw its tongue appear on the ultrasound display! As soon as news gets out, the koalas will be descending on Interspeech 2026 to learn all about tongue movements and vocalisation!

This photo features a koala from Chimelong Zoo, which proudly hosts the largest koala population outside of Australia with over 80 koalas! It is incredible to learn that this thriving "8-generation" koala family has grown from just 6 koalas originally introduced from Australia.

Introducing our Tiny Koala to the grand old Charminar. 400 years of history. Four minarets that built a city. This is where Hyderabad began. This is where I was born, where every street taught me something, where every sunset over the monument felt like magic. Today, the koala sees what my heart has known forever, some places aren’t just monuments. They’re memories. They’re home. **No AI tool was used on this picture

This photo was taken at Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh, known as the “Grand Canyon of India.” Formed by the Penna River, the stunning gorge and red sandstone cliffs offer breathtaking panoramic views. The location also features the historic Gandikota Fort, blending natural beauty with rich heritage. This place beautifully blends natural grandeur with cultural heritage, and I felt it would be the perfect setting to capture a creative, engaging moment for the competition.

My photo was taken at Snoopy’s Park in Canada’s Wonderland, Toronto, Canada. It was a bright and sunny day, and the whole amusement park was full of energy and joy. The sunshine was beautiful but dazzling, so my koala and I decided to wear matching sunglasses. Snoopy also joined us in the photo and looked very cute. The three of us looked as if we were ready to start an adventure together.

Koalas Visit Toronto The image was taken from Grange Park in Toronto, Canada, with the iconic CN Tower visible in the background. The koalas came to Toronto for a city adventure. One climbed onto the CN Tower to enjoy the city view, while another played on the slide behind me. With the help of "cross-species speech software", we were able to communicate throughout the visit. This playful scene celebrates curiosity, friendship, and the power of speech technology to connect different worlds.

This photo documents the Jamsil Incident, recorded during my assignment with KDA (Koala Defense Agency). On that day, a giant koala emerged beside Lotte World Tower, casting its shadow over Seoul and turning the skyline into a disaster zone. As the city shook under its roar, I was deployed to the center of Jamsil to contain the threat. The photo captures the decisive moment when KDA made contact with the invader and began pushing it back from the heart of Seoul.

Grateful to the Interspeech 2026 organizers (and Suellen Holland!) for clicking my photo at Interspeech 2025 and surprising me with this charming set of koalas in Rotterdam. Today, these cute kolas are everywhere in our Hyderabad office (decorating desks, monitors, and even plants) creatively styled by my wonderfully artistic colleagues. Hope one of it travels to Sydney to attend Interspeech 2026 and click a picture with a real Koala.
